“Comedy that is ACTUALLY for everyone”
Performing at the Oxford Playhouse, comedian and writer Maise Adam delivered a wildly amusing roll-on-the-floor funny stand-up show as a part of her ongoing ‘Appraisal’ tour. Best known for her sharp wit and hilariously relatable observations on the world and her own life, Maisie had the entire crowd in bits!
The beginning of the show immediately involved everyone, and Maisie’s infectious energy was clear the minute she walked on stage.
Maisie’s material leaned heavily into her own experiences of being a 30-year-old woman and relatable canon events in people’s lives such as the pressures of having a baby straight after marriage and her brilliant comparison of excessive baby pictures to an unsolicited d*ck pic.
My highlight of the night was the unexpected, but priceless cameo of Danny Dyer as the finale which tied everything together perfectly. The playhouse was a perfect venue for this show, the proximity of the audience and the stage made for an intimate and comfortable setting, this meant that the audience could always feel involved meaning that jokes always landed. The stage was minimalistic which meant that the audience was purely focused on Maisie which was effective.
Overall, Maisie Adam delivered a smashing performance, and her humor was relevant and relatable — definitely worth seeing! With this performance and the rest of her tour, Maisie continues to establish herself as a standout talent in the comedy scene; I can’t wait to see what she does next.
