REVIEW: Friends the Parody Musical at King’s Theatre Glasgow

Rating: 5 out of 5.

a love letter to the series that defined a generation

Opening night of Friends! The Musical Parody at the King’s Theatre in Glasgow last night was unagi-level perfection from start to finish! This laugh-out-loud show captures everything we adore about the iconic sitcom, from the coffee-fuelled chaos of Central Perk to the “we were on a break!” drama we all secretly love.

The cast smashed it out the park — Enzo Benvenuti (Ross)Alicia Belgrade (Monica)Daniel Parkinson (Chandler)Eva Hope (Rachel)Ronnie Burden (Joey), and Amelia Atherton (Phoebe) each brought their character’s quirks to life with pitch-perfect timing and hilarious charm. You could tell they were having as much fun on stage as we were in the audience! A special shoutout to Edward Leigh, who shone in multiple roles (Gunther, Tom Selleck, and Paolo) — talk about the one with the scene-stealer! His pre show set really got the crowds geared up, ready for fun!

Under the sharp direction of Michael Gyngell, the show zipped along faster than Joey can finish a pizza. The clever script and lyrics by Bob and Tobly McSmith, paired with catchy tunes by Assaf Gleizner, made for a night packed with nostalgia, sass, and laughter. The creative design by Andrew Exeter and costumes by Jennie Quirk gave the show that bright, 90s New York flair that fans will instantly recognise.

From Chandler’s sarcasm to Phoebe’s wonderfully weird songs, every moment was a wink to the die-hard Friends fans — and the crowd absolutely loved it. The audience clapped, cheered, and laughed like we were all back on the orange sofa at Central Perk.

The second half really hit its stride, with musical numbers that had everyone in stitches. “The One Where Ross and Rachel Take a Break” brought the house down, and Phoebe’s Smelly Mom moment had the whole theatre singing along. Plus, if you ever wondered what it would be like to watch a chick and a duck tap dance, this one’s for you! The chemistry between the cast was undeniable — every interaction felt natural, affectionate, and completely true to the spirit of the show. It was like catching up with old friends (pun totally intended).

The King’s Theatre, with its warm atmosphere and buzzing crowd, was the perfect setting for this hilarious trip down memory lane. Whether you’ve seen every episode ten times or just fancy a fun night out, Friends! The Musical Parody is “the one you don’t want to miss.” Make sure you stay right until the end-the cast treat you to a special dance break-if you know, you know!

Leaving the theatre, there was a real sense of joy in the air — people were quoting lines, humming songs, and grinning from ear to ear. Friends! The Musical

Parody isn’t just a show; it’s a love letter to the series that defined a generation. Whether you’re a die-hard fan or just in it for the laughs, it delivers a perfect mix of nostalgia, energy, and heart. Like the theme tune says — it really will be there for you.
