REVIEW: Werewolf

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Intense Immersive Theatre That Does Not Let You Breathe and is Absolutely Amazing

The bunker is closing. This is the last chance to get in. The audience pours in, and sits, receiving an information pamphlet. The doors are then locked, as we face containment for seven days, to avoid succumbing to a very, very old disease.

Devised and performed by Joel Baxendale, Stella Reid and Hannah Kelly, Werewolf is a thrilling immersive experience that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The actors are incredible. They fully embrace their characters and the situation that they are in. They brilliantly provide laughs and tension, which build and build throughout the show. They are trusted one minute and suspected the next. It is a truly amazing show and experience that is well conducted by the talents on the stage.

The show takes us through the seven day containment period, guiding us through the days with some levity, and then plunging us into tension and darkness in the night. The sound and lighting is expertly created by Oliver Devlin and Lucas Neal. It adds to the show and the effectiveness of the experience, crafted to heighten every bit of tension and anxiety that the audience feels. The immersion is intense, the second the doors lock we are drawn in, and it does not let up until the show ends.

It is due to this that the audience very much becomes a part of this show, leading to a lot of interaction throughout. What is fascinating is how quickly we turn on each other. Suspicions are evident from early on and you end up questioning every person in the room. Your head plays tricks on itself, and the more people that do suspicious things, the more you question if anyone else is part of this performance troupe or if they are a werewolf.

It’s a stunning piece of theatre, and I left with adrenaline pumping through my body. It is terrifying, funny and expertly crafted. An absolute must see that you can watch again and again and again.
