Liverpool’s own Hot Water Comedy Club located on Hope Street in the artsy, bustling Georgian quarter was packed this Friday Evening. With two shows going on simultaneously, the double headline and the Triple Headline, the vibe was great. We were greeted at the door by a friendly funny host who explained how the Hot Water Comedy club worked and showed us to our seats for the Early Double Headline show.

The venue was cramped but this gave a good atmosphere, especially when MC Phil Chapman came out and started picking on front row audience members – god help them! Phil gave us hilarious audience banter and a run down of the show laying down the ground rules: no heckling, phones on silent and no talking as due to the small room, everybody would be able to hear you. The show consisted of 2 comedians with half hour sets each with a 10 minute break in-between and an intro from Phil prior to each one. And so thus began the hour and a bit show of raw, hilarious and just the right side of offensive humour.

The show started with a bang, as Freddie Quinne took to the stage. His crude, relatable Northern humour had me splitting my sides, with self-depreciating jokes and brilliant delivery. His show was only interrupted once as he told a particularly annoying audience member to shut up but this only added to his set with a bit of audience back and forth.

Coming out in the second half, and the second comedian (one gripe is that it’s very hard to find comedian’s names post the show) came in with relatable humour about politics, dogs and much more. As well as some class audience interaction. I will say my only struggle with this one was that he spoke very fast and I couldn’t pick up every word he was saying – but what I could hear was great. Although I can’t blame that solely on him as a couple in front of me – one of whom was the annoying one from the first half were talking a fair bit. The staff did respectfully tell them to be quiet.

Overall, I absolutely loved the show and rarely stopped laughing. This is brilliant night out or start to a night out and any comedy lover should go to any event here and try to watch these three comedians in action.
