FLIP! transcends mere entertainment; it emerges as a timely and relevant piece that masterfully captures the essence of our digital age. And it’s also really funny.
In FLIP! we are immediately introduced to the dynamic duo Carleen and Crystal, close friends, who have teamed up to pursue a career as creators of video content and branded themselves as “CC”.
Jadesola Odunjo, playing Crystal, is drawn to the allure of becoming an influencer. Meanwhile, Carleen, portrayed by Leah St Luce, grapples with post-graduate life marked by a series of disappointments in pursuit of unfulfilling employment, finding the prospect of a steady income quite tempting.
Within the imaginative realm crafted by Racheal Ofori, conventional platforms undergo a metamorphosis where everything is familiar enough to the audience but also different enough that there are no legal implications.
The dialogue is not only quick-witted but also hilariously sharp, creating moments of laughter that resonate with the audience, interwoven with humorous memes that possess the potential to stand independently as comedic gems.
The play, at its core, is an exploration of the profound friendship and connection shared by its two main characters, immediately evoking empathy from the audience. The adept multi-rolling exhibited in the performance elevates the storytelling to new heights, with intricate and swift changes executed flawlessly, contributing to a dynamic and engaging theatrical experience.
Presented at the Soho Theatre, the play finds itself perfectly situated in a time where the digital realm has seamlessly integrated into our daily lives. It’s running until the 25th of November, providing ample opportunity for audiences to immerse themselves in this thought-provoking and humorous exploration of our contemporary existence.
