A Whole New World of Spectacle: Disney’s Aladdin Soars into Manchester

Disney’s beloved Aladdin gets a dazzling reimagining in this smash-hit musical touring the UK. The iconic characters come alive on stage in a larger-than-life production brimming with exceptional talent and magical theatrics.

The fantastical tale follows Aladdin (Gavin Adams), a self-proclaimed ‘street rat’ who is trying to turn a leaf with the help of his loyal friends Kassim (Nay-Nay), Babkak (Nelson Bettencourt) and Omar (Adam Taylor). As luck would have it, he encounters the disguised Princess Jasmine (Desmonda Cathabel), longing for adventure outside the palace walls. When the devious Jafar (Adam Strong) and his wisecracking sidekick, Iago (Angelo Paragoso) tempt Aladdin to enter the Cave of Wonders, the magnificent Genie (Yeukayi Ushe) takes the journey to a whole new world.

But the magic doesn’t just come from the Genie’s wishes. The entire cast delivers a spellbinding performance. Ushe embodies the role of the Genie in every fibre of his being, truly giving a standout performance in a sea of brilliance. His rendition of “Friend Like Me” is a showstopper, exceeding expectations with dazzling spectacle and comedic flair. Adams delivers a superb Aladdin, full of energy and excitement. Cathabel has a voice like honey, “These Palace Walls” showcasing her excellent range. Strong’s well-deserved boos at the curtain call are a testament to his hilariously villainous portrayal of Jafar. The talented ensemble adds layers of energy and brilliance to every scene.

The production boasts exceptional technical elements. Dave Rose expertly conducts the outstanding orchestra, his enthusiasm radiating to the stalls and beyond. Bob Crowley’s scenic design is nothing short of magnificent. The intricate sets transform effortlessly, showcasing Disney’s commitment to industry-leading quality. Gregg Barnes’ costume designs are a glittering spectacle, adding bursts of colour and vibrancy to the stage.

Something uniquely special about Disney productions is the audiences who flock to see them. Whilst many a regular theatregoer was marvelling at this show, many audience members were experiencing the magic of theatre for the first time. The awe, wonder, and excited chatter leave hope that productions of this scale can connect with youngsters and preserve our theatres for generations to come.

Don’t miss your chance to be whisked away on a magical carpet ride! Catch Aladdin at the Palace Theatre in Manchester this summer until July 7th, and at various locations across the UK throughout the year.
