GOD THAT’S BRILLIANT! New cast for Operation mincemeat show us how it’s done!
After a successful run and over 63 5* review (and another one!), the new cast for Operation Mincemeat had some big boots to fill and boy, oh boy, did they fill them.
Brought to life by Splitlip, this slick satire follows the true story of how the British MI5 tricked Hitler by using a corpse, some fake documents and lot of faith… a lot of it.
Our story begins with Charles Cholmondeley (Seàn Carey) a quivering, slightly pathetic young man with a bonkers idea for how to defeat the Germans. No one will listen to him, that is until he meets Ewan Montagu, (Emily Barber) a man full of swagger and charm who enters like a large cat, prowling around the stage, licking himself. Ewan sticks to Charles like glue, convinces him to go through with the plan, and once they start there’s no looking back.
As they tumble through borrowed time the pair meet an array of weird and wonderful characters, full of life, pizazz and a few somewhat concerning obsessions (dead bodies)- who join them on their quest for victory.
This fantastic ensemble remain strong throughout; they also include the brilliant Christian Andrews with his impeccable portrayal of the uptight, but soft hearted Hester Leggatt, Claire-Marie Hall, who shows what it’s like to be a woman fighting to be heard in a male dominated workplace with an impressive vocal range and Chlöe Hart, who brings perfect comedian timing and buckets of energy.
Our company jump through multiple hoops, with hilarious and catchy numbers, complex choreo, rapid costume changes and beautiful, heart felt soliloquies to music. This show has something for everyone. Cheeks will be sore and eyes won’t be dry after viewing this spectacular rendition of what really went on in the showdown between the British MI5 vs Hitler and the Nazis.
