A charming show from a quietly impressive comedian
Married at First Wright comes from Mr Richard Wright himself, a self-billed hopeless at dating comedian who manages to fall in love and get divorced within a year, a financial year.
Richard is a safe hand and the audience feel comfortable in his sweet yet confident stage presence. The jokes are solid, from the more obviously structured to the storytelling, he deftly flicks between the styles and it never loses momentum. My favourite section, a righteous explanation of the layout of a Chinese buffet, had me guffawing loudly.
The willingness to lean into expectations and natural embarrassment, all lift the delivery to a really clean performance. And then we get to the obligatory twist, delivered with true surprise to the room of impressed audience.
There are elements that need sharpening but overall show to catch during fringe.
