Absolutely Thrilling!
From start to finish, MJ The Musical was nothing short of spectacular. This show dives deep into the life and career of Michael Jackson, taking the audience on a journey from his early days with the Jackson 5 to his iconic reign as the King of Pop. More than just a collection of his greatest hits, the production offers a glimpse into the man behind the music, exploring both his triumphs and challenges.
The cast was phenomenal across the board. From the youngest members playing the Jackson 5, who absolutely held their own with brilliant vocals and infectious energy during numbers like ‘The love you save’ and ‘ABC’ the incredible lead, Jamaal Fields-Green, who completely embodied Michael Jackson in every sense. His movements, mannerisms, and vocal delivery were uncanny, almost making it feel as though Jackson himself had stepped onto the stage.
It would not be right if i didn’t give the choreography its own round of applause. Directed by Christopher Wheeldon, every routine was bold, sharp, and groovy, perfectly capturing Jackson’s signature style while adding fresh and exciting elements. The musical arrangements were equally impressive, elevating the performance beyond a simple tribute act and making it feel like a full-scale production. Each number had its own distinct identity. Whether it was the haunting energy of ‘Thriller’ or slower, dreamier notes of ‘Human Nature’, every song was treated with the care and creativity it deserved.
Aside from the electrifying performances, MJ The Musical doesn’t shy away from Jackson’s personal struggles. The production delicately explores the pressures of fame and the challenges he faced, offering a balanced portrayal of Michael’s life. The show’s pacing never faltered, even after the interval, keeping the audience engaged from start to finish. I found it impossible to sit still at times, and by the final song, I was more than ready to get up and dance. The moment the cast took their bows, I seized the opportunity for a well-earned boogie, though I could have easily stayed for an encore.
To put to simply, this is not a show to miss. Whether you’re a lifelong MJ fan or are simply looking for an outstanding theatre experience, MJ The Musical delivers in every way. I left the theatre thoroughly entertained, and ever so slightly disappointed that it had to end.
It had me hooked from the beginning.
A fantastic show with magnificent performances from everyone.
