Midlife crises, mixtapes and 80s bangers… following a sell-out Australian tour and a critically acclaimed season at Brisbane Powerhouse, join Tammy Tooth as a forgotten mixtape catapults her back to 1987, where she faces her teenage self and rediscovers her spark. With 15 live songs, a spandex-loving DJ and women 40+ dancing their way into the spotlight, it is a joyous, glitter-drenched celebration of second chances. Assembly George Square Studios (Studio One) from 30th July – 25th August at 17:55.

  1. Thank you for chatting with A Young(ish) Perspective! Introduce us to who you are and what your doing at the Edinburgh Fringe this year?

All Fired Up; an 80’s mixtape musical – we are bringing 10 (count them 10) creatives from Tropical North Queensland, Cairns, Australia (think, the Great Barrier Reef) to Edinburgh to perform our hit  show – part rock concert, part 80’s dance class, part comedy to Studio One, The Assembly Rooms. For the entire season.

The show  is wrapped around Tammy Tooth’s midlife crisis, a time-travel twist and a live 80’s soundtrack that shaped a generation.

In 60 jam-packed minutes, Rachel Terry (co – writer and co-producer) and her real-life teenage daughter Scarlett explore how music (and a little self-reflection) can change your life. Meanwhile, I’m DJ Neon—radio DJ, unofficial life coach, and lead vocalist (in front of a live 4-piece rock band) of over 15 epic ‘80s anthems.

When we first heard Pat Benatar’s Hit Me With Your Best Shot and Cyndi Lauper’s Girls Just Wanna Have Fun as young teens, something shifted. That raw power and the out loud soul searching? It stuck with us. It built us. All Fired Up is a tribute to that spirit—and a love letter to every woman who’s ever danced through her drama.

So we invite you – dust off your leg warmers or run don’t walk to your nearest vintage shop, liberally smear on your blue eye shadow, and come solve the problems of your world – one 80’s song at time.

  1. A Youngish Perspective platforms accessible arts and champions the huge scope of different perspectives – can you tell us about the show you’re taking to Edinburgh Festival Fringe as if you’re flyering to both a young first-time-Fringe goer and a festival veteran returning every year?

Tammy Tooth is in the middle of a midlife crisis. Through a quirk of fate she gets sent back to 1987 where she comes face to face with 15 year old self recording music off the radio. Through time spent with herself Tammy rediscovers what used to make her passionate and thrilled about life! With the help of some banging 1980’s tunes, she travels back to 2025 and begins the next chapter fuelled with passion and purpose.

  1. With a show that is based on such an iconic and specific time period, how do you appeal to a versatile audience of all ages?

Great songs,  a thumping band, non-threatening audience participation opportunities, dance workshops for anyone who can move (particularly focussed on 40 + women who want to move!), a chance to dance in the dark like no one’s watching, get dressed up, connect with the music and moments that shaped your parents, aunties and uncles, explore a generation of musicians and enormous songs that are still popular to this day.

  1. Is there a specific musical moment that speaks to the heart of the show?

For me, it’s the Total Eclipse of the Heart moment, when Tammy realises what’s missing in her life, the band are thumping, and I get to sing one of the most epic notes a pop music singer has song ever sung (in my opinion!)

  1. Who would your surprise dream audience member be?

Cyndi Lauper? OMG. Pat Benatar?? OMG. These are the women who inspired a generation with their ballsiness and vision. Their talent and their songs are embedded into the very core of our show. PLUS we’d get them up to dance in the final community dance moments of the show. Hell, I’d just hand the microphone to Pat! She can bring us home!
