‘A piece of relatable, clever comedy for audiences of all ages’
I would class this particular piece of stand-up as a hidden gem of the Fringe this year. A show that is as clever as it is chaotic, Will Davies brings a neurodivergent voice to the stage with cutting wit and delightfully dry humour, making it a must-see for anyone who has ever struggled with the slightest bit of anxiety!
The show explores themes of social anxiety, communication, identity, and the absurdities of everyday life through a uniquely neurodivergent lens. Davies doesn’t overexplain or rely on tropes. Instead, he leans into complexity, trusting the audience to catch up. The result is a performance that feels refreshingly honest: no pandering, no polished persona, just sharp jokes and reflections on everyday life delivered with deadpan brilliance.
While the show sometimes had a deprecating tone that didn’t quite land right, there is an unfiltered authenticity present that is often rare to comedy, and I would recommend it emphatically. It wasn’t difficult for me to know that I’d really stumbled on something great.
In Much Peril, Many Intrigue, Davies has crafted a show that’s subtle, subversive, and deeply funny. His voice stands out as being unafraid of weirdness, allowing the audience to feel comfortable in indulging in weirdness too! For those who like their comedy intelligent, offbeat, and a little mysterious, this is the one to seek out.
(Will Davies: Much Peril, Many Intrigue is on at the Fringe from the 1st to the 24th August – not including the 12th – at Just The Tonic at the Caves between 5:30pm and 6:30pm. Buy your tickets here: https://www.edfringe.com/tickets/whats-on/will-davies-much-peril-many-intrigue.)
