“A spooky evening laced with everything Uncanny fans love”
Uncanny: Fear of the Dark is the theatre extension of the beloved Uncanny radio series and podcast, starring Danny Robins. For those unfamiliar, Uncanny has become something of a cultural phenomenon in recent years, drawing in millions of listeners with its investigations into real-life paranormal encounters. Uncanny explores both sides of seemingly unexplainable experiences – the believer, who sees them as evidence of forces beyond current scientific understanding, and the sceptic, who carefully examines the facts in search of a rational explanation.
Danny Robins leads the storytelling of the five different exclusive cases. His natural charisma and charm ring through the whole show. He is able to command an audience in the way he has drawn in millions of podcast listeners, through thoughtful questioning, balanced dramatisation and for the stage, some theatrics. He is supported onstage by experts Evelyn Hollow and Dr Ciaran O’Keeffe, who put forward their believer and sceptic views.Their exchanges bring texture and balance to the stories, offering insight while leaving space for the audience to make up their own minds. Without spoiling any of the cases presented, the audience will feel right at home with excellent cases that mirror a lot of themes covered by the TV series and podcast.
A fun part of the production is the inclusion of the audience. Theatre-goers are invited to share their own eerie experiences, which are then discussed by Robins and his team. This was warmly welcomed as fans of the show, creating a sense of shared curiosity and community. It is in these unscripted moments that the show truly shines, blurring the line between performance and live investigation, and reminding us why Uncanny has captured such a loyal following.
Uncanny is a fun evening for anyone who has been part of the Uncanny universe before but also a total delight for anyone interested in the supernatural. It is a clever blend of storytelling, performance and discussion that makes for a uniquely engaging night out. Uncanny: Fear of the Dark tours the UK and whether you’re a believer, a sceptic, or simply love a good ghost story well told, it’s well worth catching. Tickets are available here.
