Funny, musically brilliant and wonderfully bonkers!
What happens when two of entertainment’s biggest icons are thrown together for a concert that never actually existed? The answer is 60 minutes of glorious musical mayhem. David Saffert and Jillian Snow bring Liberace and Liza Minnelli to dazzling life in a show that mixes outrageous comedy, phenomenal musicianship and just the right amount of theatrical chaos. It’s a wonderfully inventive premise, executed with such charm and confidence that you quickly forget you’re watching an imaginary meeting and simply enjoy the ride.
The chemistry between the two performers is exceptional. Their constant back-and-forth is hilarious, and they build a fantastic rapport with the audience through clever, playful crowd work that makes every performance feel unique. The audience is kept laughing throughout, and the improvisation only adds to the excitement rather than distracting from it.
Saffert’s virtuosic piano playing and Snow’s powerhouse vocals are at the heart of the show, delivering classics including Cabaret, New York, New York and Over the Rainbow before throwing in some brilliantly chosen modern numbers, from Lady Gaga to Britney Spears. The blend of old and new works beautifully, giving familiar favourites a fresh twist while showcasing the remarkable versatility of both performers.
One of my favourite moments was Liza’s performance of Toxic, packed with brilliant comedic beats and impeccable timing. Liberace’s cheeky piano solo was another standout – playful, mischievous and a wonderful reminder of the extraordinary musical talent on stage.
The physical comedy is outstanding, with both performers fully committing to every gag. Although the show embraces chaos at times, it only adds to the electricity and infectious energy of the duo. Everything feels spontaneous in the best possible way, making each laugh feel earned rather than scripted.
Whether you’re a lifelong fan of Liberace and Liza Minnelli or discovering their music for the first time, there’s something here for everyone. Funny, musically superb, brilliantly performed and gloriously bonkers, it’s a joyful celebration and one of the most entertaining hours you’ll spend at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe.
