Now in its thirty-first year of hosting shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, theSpaceUK is offering a long and diverse menu of must-see productions this summer.
theSpaceUK held its annual Press Launch on the opening Sunday of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and what an eclectic delight it was.
On display were an incredibly wide range of stories, talents, performers, and theatrical forms from all over the globe. Not to mention, an incredible MC in Tim Benzie, who couldn’t have done a more phenomenal job in sweeping the show along and seaming an incredibly diverse docket together.
Highlights included samples of dance from Response Theatre Company’s explosive production of I Made You A Mixtape, a teaser of No Tits Theatre’s bodyswap romcom play boobytrapped about a cis man and a trans man who have to understand each other before they can swap back to their original bodies, and a powerhouse plunge into the plucky musical cauldron of The Barden Party’s Macbeth: Blood and Bluegrass.
A true and wholly unexpected stand-out was Tess O’Shea’s one-woman comedy House Fly, in which a house fly has a long and buzzy story to tell before her short house fly life comes to a dramatic end. Swatters, the programme warned, were strictly prohibited. If you want a good laugh at some pretty absurd work, I’d personally recommend getting a ticket before her little lifetime is up.
