Wicked card tricks expertly done
Andrew Frost is a wonderful card magician, that is clear from very early on. As we enter, we are all invited to shuffle a deck of cards. There is a further deck of cards shuffled before we start the show. These moments of chance from random audience members all come back to amazing effect.
Frost talks about chance and the impossibilities of the exact circumstances of this show throughout. He often draws attention to the uniqueness of this, before throwing all that away and showcasing his mastery of manipulation and trickery to great effect in the face of improbability.
He is a supremely talented magician who is wonderfully fast, almost impossibly so. There is no way to try and catch how he does it, and he tries to discourage this in the show. He mentions that the joy in watching a magic show is the magic, and not in how it is done. This rings true, it is nice to just watch the tricks and be amazed by his wizardry.
There are moments of mentalism throughout as well. He toys with the audience and predicts with impressive accuracy, which leads to quite the astounding finish. There seems to be no world in which he can achieve what he does in the finale, yet it is achieved, and that really is magic.
The show could benefit from a quicker pace. There are times when Frost discusses ideas of ephemerality with us that almost take you out of the moment. However, he skilfully draws you back in, and is clearly a talented magician who seems to be able to manipulate a deck of cards to do exactly what he wants.
