Smartly written and energetically delivered

Farah Ashraf delivers a great performance as Amna, a young British Muslim woman just finding her sexual independence. She is a powerhouse in this role, and deserves all the praise she can get.

The story follows Amna through her journey of love and lust, moving from being a schoolgirl with a crush to a woman creating an Only Fans account and finding financial gain from the kinks of various men. While doing this, she battles her relationship with her Ummi, treading the line of disappointing her and freeing herself from an almost prisoned experience.

The piece is very well written, and interrogates modern ideas of sexuality within Muslim culture and differing generations. It is competent in this exploration, often finding ways to be funny, heartfelt and tragic within the same few lines. Props must also be given to director and dramaturg Alessandro Babalola, who manages to slickly help Ashraf bring not only the script but the various characters to life.

The character work is great, and it is wonderful to see Ashraf flip between Amna’s more tender and youthful side to her personl as the Persian Princess to bringing her Ummi and various random men to life. As we reach the resolution, there is a wanting for more. We reach a delicate and interesting place that can no doubt be explored in further depth. There are further emotive beats to find in this conclusion.

This is a good play, and works to showcase a very relatable struggle in an interesting way. The cultural element of a young Muslim are explored truthfully and leave the audience having learned a lot, while enjoying a solid hour of theatre.
