“Sketch Comedy at its best: assured performances and hilarious skits”

James Trickey and Ted Milligan come together as Burger and a Pint, and showcase their sizable comedic abilities to the Fringe with a brand new hour of sketch comedy.

The show is brilliant, with each sketch bringing laughter, fun and well written comedy to the audience. These are two comedians at the top of their game, and they write skits that are relevant, irreverent and totally surreal throughout. What is impressive is that there are genuinely no sketches that don’t land, at least in part, with the audience. Whether tackling race, board games or the touchy subject of puppet abuse, the show always finds the joke and manages to poke fun at any issue it explores.

The performances of Trickey and Milligan are consistently excellent, with a strong showing of the relationship and bond they have that translates well onto the stage. They manage to be deadpan, sincere or serious at the flip of a switch and keep an incredibly high energy throughout. What is also a joy to watch is just how much fun these two have while on stage together. They laugh and joke with each other throughout, and you cannot tell if it’s scripted or not. The only thing I’m quite sure wasn’t scripted was when Milligan slammed a chair on his foot. While worrying for his wellbeing, it was hilarious.. and in no small part thanks to Trickey’s reaction, hysterical laughter.

It is a brilliant show, and they both find a way to tread lines very well. They are constantly poking fun at taboo subjects in a well crafted and thought out way. It is no easy task to tread the line so tightly, but both Trickey and Milligan do it well. They hold their heads high as a true example of clever and well made sketch comedy.

Worth every minute and a proper treat for the Soul, Burger and a Pint are one of the tightest and funniest sketch shows at this years Festival.
