Hilarious Comedy That Packs a Punch and Entertains

Tom Stade returns to his favourite comedy basement to deliver a new hour of stand up comedy. He spends this time looking into how generational gaps are affecting him and how he’s letting some things move on without him.

As soon as he arrives on stage, Stade brings the energy. He is a punchy performer, who is loud and assured. He is also incredibly likable, and is able to get the crowd on his side within seconds. He quickly finds people of different ages in the crowd and builds them into the show, utilising them to highlight gaps in generations and how much we have changed as a society. He is very natural in his performance, nothing feels like an act, and this only adds to the charm and the humour of the show.

The set is well written. It settles on its theme early on, then wanders around it with various stories from Stade’s life. He looks at social constructs and rules of modern society then breaks them down, injecting fast paced laughs throughout. It is clear Stade is getting frustrated as he tries to navigate a more advanced world, and he uses this set to air his grievances. His exploration of an older man dealing with a new world is interesting. He gives us enough to make the set poignant, but settles on never really letting that bother us. Really, this set is built to be thematically tight, but with enough room to feel a little looser. Stade balances this well with his natural ability to make it a joyous hour of comedy.

His Comedy can, at times, be a little close to the bone, but he never crosses the line. It is very funny and there doesn’t seem to be a joke that misses the mark. Stade is a Fringe staple for a reason, and has worked at a high level for long enough to be a smart and well put together performer, who never falters in his set.

It’s a fun hour of comedy. You’ll definitely laugh and maybe think about your own relationship and place in the societal norms of modern times. What is clear, is that you’re in safe hands with Tom Stade.
