Absolutely Hilarious and Utterly Chaotic, Crafted to Perfection
Michael Hockey guest stars in The Faustus Project for one night only. One of a multitude of performers who join the show for a brief cameo. And what a night they have.
This show is brought to us by Half Trick Theatre, and is now in its third year. The core cast are Alex Medland, Courtney Bassett and Moira Hamilton, with a supporting role for director Caden Scott. Each performer is amazing. They have the utmost conviction on the stage and are not afraid to do exactly what is required from them by the show. They clearly have fun, and bring an infectious energy throughout the piece. Hockey was also excellent, never flinching or faltering. He was a joy to watch and an absolute star for taking on the role. He works effortlessly with the rest of the cast to bring a wonderful show to life.
The joy of The Faustus Project is the surprise. It is not something you want to know much about before you go on, which makes a review particularly hard to write. What I can say is that this is a well crafted piece of theatre that also serves as quite a good adaptation of the source text. It is cleverly curated and absolutely hilarious throughout, filled with brilliant moments that will stay with you forever. This group of creators and performers are at the top of their game, showing absolutely no signs of slowing down.
Half Trick Theatre is only going from strength to strength. We should all keep an eye on what they will bring to us next. It is so much fun, and what can only be described as a quintessential Fringe experience. The show is chaotic, majestic and absolutely brilliant. It is absolutely one not to miss, don’t let it pass you by.
This show does face an uncertain future, and the cast are raising money to stay in the UK and continue creating wonderful work. Once you see the show, or even if you don’t, support these artists in their quest to stay. They have brought something truly unique to the Fringe, and we would be wrong to not hold onto these performers and beg them to stick around and continue creating innovative and phenomenal work. This is the kind of work that the Fringe is made for, and Scottish Theatre is in desperate need of.
