‘A dream folded into a suitcase’
Circo Valise is a short, lovely 10-minute solo show at Assembly George Square Studios, performed by Eduardo Salzane.
Using a miniature circus puppet theatre, Salzane presents a whole circus in a tiny space, with characters including a person fired from a cannon, a trapeze artist and, of course, a flying elephant. It feels simple, but every element is carefully designed, showing a fundamental respect for the craftsmanship behind the miniature circus.
The show is so small that it almost feels like a dream that has been folded into a suitcase. The child standing next to me was determined to watch until the very end, completely absorbed by what was happening.
And when the performance was over, they received the tiny suitcase prop, named “Dream”, which felt like a fitting reminder of what Salzane had created: a whole little world from almost nothing.
