Shiori Kase is the Lead Principal with English National Ballet, and is performing in the title role in Giselle on the 18th and 20th of January. Shiori Kase has trained at both the Hirose Kato Ballet School and the Royal Ballet School, and became a Lead Principal with the ENB in 2022. How would you describe Mary Skeaping’s Giselle?
Mary Skeaping’s Giselle is the most beautiful version, striking a perfect balance between allowing interpretation and capturing Giselle’s character clearly.
What’s the process been like, learning the choreography?
Learning the choreography for this ballet was a special challenge for me, as it was the first ballet I learned upon joining ENB. Despite its difficulty, exploring the role of Giselle has been a rewarding experience.
How did you first become interested in ballet?
I began ballet at the age of 3, initially just attending ballet school. Over time, I became deeply passionate about it, especially enjoying working with my teacher.
What advice do you have for aspiring dancers hoping to work in the industry?
Aspiring dancers should be grateful for every opportunity and recognise that success in this industry is often a collaborative effort.
