Lee Minora is impossible not to like
Comedian Lee Minora’s Baby Everything bursts with playful charm from start to finish. Minora has found every opportunity for creative detail to bring to life her whirlpooling whistle-stop tour through the chaos of modernity. Minora crafts a brilliantly relatable persona, in absolute denial of the devastating world she navigates but nevertheless uprooted by it.
Baby Everything is deeply satirical and often silly, providing the performance with a lightness and wonderful humour that makes palatable the bleak social landscape it analyses. Though a performer who is successful at prioritising comedy, Minora also delivers some shockingly observant one-liners which cut to the core of her subject matter, resulting in a show with impressive dimension. Minora’s physicality develops this dimension as she delivers a range of compelling characters and maintains a controlled high energy, driving this rich performance.
It is a joy to be in Minora’s audience, a position which she ensures is never passive, rather, we are physically involved in much of the performance and remain always complicit in what is unfolding onstage. This is both highly entertaining and adds an effective element of immediacy to Minora’s outcry over our willingness to simply surrender to the world that is, potentially, the worst it’s ever been. Baby Everything’s ability to make us confront this reality without leaving us with a hopeless feeling is impressive, making this show an entirely worthwhile watch.
