Joyous!

New theatre collective ‘Cheese Platter Productions’ have brought the hilarious play 5 Lesbians Eating A Quiche to life with roaring success. The play transports us to 1956 America amid the backdrop of political turbulence, however the greatest concern facing the ‘Sisters of Gurtrude Stein’ is the maintenance of their quiche tasting society. This company nails the melodramatic humour the script demands at every turn, delivering brilliant characterisation and hilarious audience interaction throughout.

As a company, these actors balance each other beautifully – their off-stage chemistry translates wonderfully into the production. Jessa Blackthorne injects extremely high energy into both her performance and her direction, which is amplified further by Sinead Kerr and Danielle Levitt, while Mia Jacobs and Kayla Torres enrich the stage with a detailed gentle ease. Together, this cast holds the audience always in the palm of their hands.

5 Lesbians Eating A Quiche is a joyous experience for any audience member, particularly for lesbian or queer viewers – it bursts with pride in a genuinely heartwarming way. ‘Cheese Platter Productions’ have done a fantastic job with this show and I hope that together they continue to push what was initially a small community theatre project to greater heights.
