REVIEW: Albama 3

Reading Time: 2 minutesThe music of Alabama 3 is a fusion of acid house with country and blues, and is certainly a
unique sound, well suited to the Boiler Shop in Newcastle.

REVIEW: The Little Mermaid

Reading Time: 2 minutesThe pantomime, inspired by 'The Little Mermaid', features Danny Crabstix and his comedic struggles with love. The show captivates with vibrant underwater sets, impressive costumes, and high-energy performances, particularly from Danny Adams and Joe McElderry. With clever humor and stunning effects, it provides a delightful Christmas experience for families.

REVIEW: Life of Pi

Reading Time: 2 minutesLife of Pi is the epic tale of seventeen-year old Pi, recounting his experience of finding himself on a small boat in the middle of the ocean as the sole survivor of a shipwreck. It’s a classic story known to many people as the book or film, and may in theory not seem the most suited to the stage, but in reality that couldn’t have been further from the truth. This show is an incredible adaptation, and has been designed so brilliantly with no illusion too difficult; the audience were captivated from start to finish.

REVIEW: I Should Be So Lucky

Reading Time: 2 minutesI Should Be So Lucky is a musical which centres around a young bride named Ella, jilted at the altar, who decides not to waste her honeymoon but instead takes her family and friends to the lovers’ paradise in Turkey. The plot was ridiculous, and became increasingly so as the show went on, but the show was undeniably packed with energy, glitter and fun.

REVIEW: Come Together: The Lennon and McCartney Songbook

Reading Time: 2 minutesAs soon as the curtain rose, we were put at ease and I felt immediately confident I was going to enjoy myself. The show was of course mainly music, but it followed the story of Lennon and McCartney as they wrote songs together and their styles developed. Tom Connor and Mark Newham were the perfect Paul and John. Tom particularly looked strikingly like Paul McCartney, but their voices were both very accurate to the iconic sounds. Their acting, singing and playing of multiple instruments was incredible and they were magnetic to watch. They were accompanied by four other musicians who also played with energy and charisma. It was so interesting and very cleverly written, intertwining the stories with the songs and using the set and backing screen to set the scene.

REVIEW: Shrek the Musical

Reading Time: 3 minutesThe Shrek films are well-known to most of the population, and the musical adaptation is essentially the same plot as the first film. It follows Shrek on his mission to rescue princess Fiona for Lord Farquaad to marry, in return for getting his swamp and peace back.

REVIEW: The Full Monty

Reading Time: 2 minutes‘The Full Monty’ follows a group of men, each with their own personal battles, who come together in with a plan to perform a strip routine at their local club. It tackles many difficult topics surrounding men’s mental health, including suicide, with humour: a challenge which could have easily been severely misjudged, but I thought it was executed perfectly.
