REVIEW: The Bleeding Tree

Reading Time: 2 minutesIn half-light a gunshot rings out. As the lights rise we find a Mother (Mariah Gale) and her two daughters, Ida (Elizabeth Dulau) and Ada (Alexandra Jensen), who have just murdered their abusive husband and father. This one-act play delves into the three days following the murder, exploring how the women choose to dispose of the body and the aftermath of the man's death.

REVIEW: Rollerghoster

Reading Time: 2 minutesI must admit I was not familiar with the character Clinton Baptiste prior to booking in to see Rollerghoster, but a quick search told me actor Alex Lowe's 'Medium Clairvoyant' creation first appeared briefly on Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights, but found a cult following and continued to develop in podcasts, YouTube, and live appearances for the next 20 years.

REVIEW: The Improvised Play

Reading Time: 2 minutesAs a big fan of improv (or impro depending who you speak to), I am happy to see the world of improvisation (often reserved for nights above a pub) making its way into theatres like The Arcola. In The Improvised Play, two actors explore a single 70 minute narrative. The focus is on creating and exploring (in this case two) fleshed out characters. The night I went, the show was truly hilarious, but there was also room for moments of real poignancy and connection.
