We sat down with Anna Mitchell who plays Eleven, Nancy and Robin in Stranger Sings coming to Southwark Playhouse from 13 Dec.
Stranger Sings returns to Southwark Playhouse for Christmas this year, what can audiences expect?
Audiences can expect a nostalgia trip back to the 80’s with loads of 80’s props and music throughout the show, as well as lots of little Musical Theatre references to try and spot. Most importantly, expect to meet all of your favourite characters from the TV show!
There’s another Stranger Things show opening in London this winter, what do you think the differences will be?
Our Stranger Sings Musical is a Parody, so prepare for a lot of giggles. You’ll be able to relax and enjoy being reminded of the highs of season 1, with some hints to the other 3 season of the show. Most importantly, get ready to spot way too many crazy wigs!
Who do you play and what’s the best thing about playing them?
I get to cover three tracks in the show. Nancy is one of my favourite parts to play in the show, as she is perceived quite differently to how she is in the series, so I love getting to play around with different parts of her character. As for Eleven, I love using her powers on the scientists, and of course, getting to wear so many crazy wigs! My third and final track is Robin who although is only in one scene, has my favourite costume from the show; I feel so lucky to play three very contrasting and iconic roles.
Has the show changed since the first run at the Vaults last winter?
The biggest change from the show last time is of course the change in cast! We have 3 familiar faces, but the rest of the cast adds such a new life to the show, and we have so much fun on stage together! There are some other subtle changes too to some of the numbers and characters.
Were you a Stranger Things fan before doing the show?
Before watching the show, I was a fan of Stranger Things, but being in the show has made me even more invested in the characters and I can’t wait for the final season!
If you could turn any other TV program into a musical, what would it be and why?
I would have to choose the TV show Dance Moms as I love choreography and movement, and it would of course have to be a parody musical too!
